SUMMARY:ALAMEDA | Italian Stakeholder Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Title: Technologies and AI for the Monitoring of Brain Diseases \nALAMEDA aims primarily to design and validate an innovative model for collecting\, acquiring\, and analyzing clinical data and patient-generated and/or self-reported data using sensors\, mobile applications\, and artificial intelligence. This model will enable continuous monitoring of neurological disease progression and treatment response\, as well as accurately predict disease evolution and potential relapses. The diseases selected for testing the developed methods and technologies are multiple sclerosis\, Parkinson’s disease\, and stroke. \nThe project\, set to conclude at the end of 2023\, has brought together cross-disciplinary and complementary skills from various European countries\, from neurology to data engineering and artificial intelligence\, to the design and development of apps and sensors\, scientific communication\, and the active involvement of patients and healthcare professionals through participatory research methods inspired by the MULTI-ACT project\, previously coordinated by FISM. \nThe workshop will take place on the morning (9:00-13:00) of Friday\, November 24\, 2023\, in Rome during the AISM 2023 Campus (a meeting of the heads of association offices from Friday afternoon to Sunday) at the A.Roma Lifestyle Hotel\, Via Giorgio Zoega 59 (and online). It aims to provide an overview of the results obtained from the ALAMEDA project and explore possible public-private synergies and collaborations with other complementary Italian initiatives and with the main players in the industry at both Italian and international levels. The goal is to establish synergies with Italian stakeholders interested in researching and validating accurate and reliable digital measures that can be adopted on a large scale for monitoring MS and its progression and to provide useful information for predicting the course of the disease and relapses\, thus allowing for more effective personalization of therapies and rehabilitation pathways. \nFurthermore\, given the complementarity with the work carried out so far by the IMI Mobilise-D project\, we will have the pleasure of hosting a presentation of its main results and discussing potential lines of cooperation. \nRegistration is open here: ➡ https://lnkd.in/daQnUr3q \nParticipation is free.

SUMMARY:Brain Innovation Days
DESCRIPTION:179 Million Europeans are currently living with brain disorders. This is to steady increase\, as the population ages. \nAt some point of their life\, one in three Europeans will live with a brain disease – neurological and mental alike. As a result\, the estimations are that brain disorders account for up to 45% of total healthcare budgets. Therefore\, this burden is expected to grow. \nDespite the prevalence of brain disorders in Europe\, a wide range of mental and neurological conditions has currently no disease-modifying treatment or cure. Developing treatments can significantly improve the lives of those living with brain disorders\, but it is extremely challenging. \nCompared to other disease areas\, multiple factors hinder the pace of innovation in this field\, including the complexity of the brain itself. As a result\, brain treatments remain insufficient. In addition\, research is disproportionally underfunded compared to other disease areas. \nIn conclusion\, we believe enhanced multi-stakeholder engagement in the brain ecosystem is needed to foster dialogue\, exchange knowledge\, accelerate investment in research and innovation\, facilitate business development and showcase on-going work. \nThe Brain Innovation Days were created to tackle these challenges.  \n\n\n\n\nWe are glad to participate at this important meeting and present our main results. Our dissemination manager Valentina Tageo from Wise Angle will join the roundtable discussion “Personalised early risk prediction\, prevention and intervention in brain diseases: challenges and opportunities of AI and Big Data technologies” arranged by BRAINTEASER Project in a session meant to establish synergies between like-minded projects such ALAMEDA\, BRAINTEASER\, LETHE Project and eMOTIONAL Cities\, on Friday 27th October at 14:00 CET. \n\n\n\n\nWe look forward to your participation!

SUMMARY:World Parkinson Congress 2023
DESCRIPTION:The triennial World Parkinson Congresses provide an international forum for basic scientists\, clinical researchers\, health care professionals\, people with Parkinson’s and others to come together under one roof to discuss\, learn\, and engage in debate around the latest scientific discoveries\, medical and comprehensive care practices related to Parkinson’s disease. \nUnlike other scientific congresses\, the World Parkinson Congress brings together all members of the Parkinson’s community. As an inclusive event\, the WPC was founded on the belief that getting world leaders out of their professional silos and forcing a cross pollination of the scientific\, clinical\, rehabilitation\, and advocacy communities would expedite the discovery of a cure and cultivate best treatment practices for this devastating disease. \nWhether this cross pollination takes place in the audience at a scientific lecture\, from the stage between the presenters\, during poster talks\, or at a small round table discussion\, the take away is often the same – we need to evolve how we think when it comes to treatment for Parkinson’s and how to move forward together as a community to expedite research and get us closer to new treatments and ultimately a cure.

SUMMARY:World Mental Health 2022
DESCRIPTION:The 2022 World Mental Health Day theme ‘Make Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority’ was chosen by a global vote that included WFMH members\, stakeholders and supporters\, and I am very grateful to all of you who participated in this process. \nIn 2021 the UN Secretary-General said that\, without determined action\, the impact of COVID 19 on mental health may last far longer than the pandemic itself. He urged us to act to redress the glaring inequalities exposed by the pandemic\, including the inequality in access to mental health services. \nPeople with lived experience of mental illness\, their families and other disadvantaged populations continue to tell us that their mental health well- being is not always in the mind of governments\, as well as those who pay for services and society at large. \nIn high income countries over 75% of people with depression have reported that they do not receive adequate care and in low and middle-income countries over 75% of people with mental health conditions have received no treatment at all.

SUMMARY:Italian MS Society and its Foundation - Annual Scientific Congress 2022
DESCRIPTION:ALAMEDA participates in the Annual FISM Congress 2022\n\n\n\nLast week\, ALAMEDA has been invited to take part to the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (FISM) 2022 Annual Congress. \nEvery year in May\, on the occasion of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Week\, the FISM Scientific Congress is organized in Rome (see 2022 programme here). At this appointment\, the researchers supported by AISM and its Foundation (FISM) meet to report on the results obtained from the funded research. In addition\, research strategies\, collaborations and partnerships at national and international level are discussed and new synergies are promoted\, thanks to which it is possible to face the important challenges posed by MS. \n \nThe title of the 2022 edition of the Congress was “Connecting MS with other neurodegenerative diseases: together we are stronger” which emphasises the importance of tackling the challenges posed by neurodegenerative diseases promoting coordination and collaboration among research groups and initiatives. \nOn the first day\, we have had the chance to listen and learn about several inspiring international and EU initiatives that altogether are striving for putting neurological diseases at the top of the priority agenda of public health and health research by posing the accent on the urgent need for broader partnerships\, multi-stakeholder commitment and policy convergence at both national and international level. \nThe outstanding line-up of speakers included Giselda Scalera\, Director of the DG Research & Innovation of the Italian Ministry of Health who spoke about the concept of “sustainable partnerships” in the Italian national research system and how it materialises in the domain of brain sciences through the Italian Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Network (Rete Italiana delle Neuroscienze e della Riabilitazione\, RIN)\, the country’s largest research network in this field which encourages collaboration between recognised Italian Research Hospitals (Istituti di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico\, IRCCS)\, facilitate the spread of information on their clinical and scientific activities\,  supports and facilitates scientific and technological research and training initiatives\, as well as the development of joint projects to improve prevention\, diagnosis\, treatment and rehabilitation of specific diseases\, with an increasing commitment towards responsible and participatory research models. \n\nDownload ALAMEDA ePoster: here
