Dr. Faouzi Alaya Cheikh (male). Professor at the Department of Computer Science at NTNU in Gjøvik, since 2006. He received his Ph.D. in Information Technology from Tampere Univ. of Technology (Finland) in April 2004; where he worked as a researcher in the Signal Processing Algorithm Group since 1994. Prof. Alaya Cheikh is a member of the Norwegian Colour and Visual Computing Laboratory where he teaches courses on image and video processing and analysis. His research interests include video surveillance, medical image processing and analysis for image guided interventions, especially laparoscopic liver surgery and colon cancer diagnosis. More recently he has started a cooperation with GE Healthcare about the use of DBT for breast cancer screening and diagnosis. Faouzi has published over 150 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, and supervised four post-doc researchers, eight PhD and a number of MSc theses projects and is currently supervising four PhD candidates. Dr. Alaya Cheikh is currently the WP leader for ‘WP2: Multi-Modal imaging’, in the H2020 ITN ETN HiPerNav – High Performance Soft Tissue Navigation–, where he and his team (3 co-supervised PhD students) work on multimodal, medical image registration, segmentation, enhancement and quality assessment. He is also leading WP3 on ‘Video guided surgery’ in the ongoing project IQ-MED – Image Quality enhancement in MEDical diagnosis, monitoring and treatment–, and has been sub-project leader in HyPerCept – Colour and quality in higher dimensions, where the team worked on stereo-image and multi-view video processing for the medical application of liver resection. Both IQ-MED and HyPerCept projects were funded by the Norwegian Research Council. Faouzi is a senior member of IEEE and a member of the steering board of NOBIM.

Dr. Marcos X. Álvarez Cid (male). Marcos received a MEng in Telecommunications Engineering in 2005, followed by a MSc in Environmental Technology in 2009 and a PhD in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition in 2011, all of them from the University of Vigo (Spain). He has been working on the development of spectral imaging algorithms applied to the agrifood and water sectors. During 2017-18 Marcos collaborated with the Department of European projects of FEUGA (Galician Enterprise-University Foundation), working as an Innovation and Technology Transfer consultant, and focusing on promoting, advising and stimulating the participation of Galician companies and research groups in European R+D+I programs. Since August 2018, Marcos is affiliated with Colourlab as EU project developer, supporting the group in the development of new EU R&D projects.

Dr. Mohib Ullah (male). Postdoctoral Fellow at NTNU, Department of Computer Science, in the areas of object segmentation and video analysis. In 2012, Mohib received a Bachelor degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Italy), and in 2015 a MSc. in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento (Italy), where he also worked as a researcher on a variety of topics, such as crowd motion analysis and traffic accident detection in the Multimedia Signal Processing and Understanding Lab (mmlab). After that period, Mohib joined the Norwegian Colour and Visual Computing Laboratory at NTNU in Gjøvik (Norway), where he is conducting research on target tracking and segmentation, as well as teaching of machine learning in bachelor course (IMT3013). Mohib’s areas of expertise are: Deep learning, Bayesian inference and graphical modeling.

Muhammad Sajjad received the master’s degree from the Department of Computer Science, College of Signals, National University of Sciences and Technology, Rawalpindi, Pakistan in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in digital contents from Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea in 2015. He is currently working as an Postdoctoral Research Fellow at NTNU, Norway. He is an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science, Islamia College University Peshawar, Pakistan. He is also the Head of the Digital Image Processing Laboratory with Islamia College University Peshawar, where many students are involved in different research projects under his supervision, such as Big data analytics, medical image analysis, multi-modal data mining, and summarization, image/video prioritization and ranking, fog computing, the Internet of Things, autonomous navigation, and video analytics. His primary research interests include computer vision, image understanding, pattern recognition, robotic vision, and multimedia applications, with a current emphasis on economical hardware and deep learning, video scene understanding, activity analysis, fog computing, the Internet of Things, and real-time tracking. He has published more than 65 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. He is serving as a professional reviewer for various well-reputed journals and conferences.
